Armstrong PhD provides comprehensive pre-employment psychological evaluations for California law enforcement agencies in accordance with California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) regulations. Our evaluations assist agencies in determining whether candidates possess the psychological suitability required to safely and effectively perform the essential duties of a peace officer.

Our psychologists have extensive experience evaluating candidates across a wide range of public safety positions. Each evaluation is conducted using evidence-based assessment methods, clinical interviews, psychological testing, and a thorough review of relevant background information. Every assessment is completed with professionalism, objectivity, and strict adherence to POST guidelines.

In addition to initial pre-employment evaluations, Armstrong PhD also provides POST-authorized second-opinion evaluations when requested by hiring agencies. Reports are delivered promptly, with expedited turnaround available when operational needs require.

1 | PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

California law enforcement agencies require candidates to successfully complete a medical examination and a POST-compliant psychological evaluation before appointment as a peace officer. These evaluations help determine whether candidates possess the psychological suitability to safely and effectively perform the essential duties of the position.

2 | WHAT TO EXPECT

The psychological evaluation includes standardized psychological testing, a comprehensive clinical interview with a licensed psychologist, and a review of relevant background information. Following completion of testing, the psychologist conducts an in-depth interview to evaluate the candidate’s personal history, emotional functioning, judgment, decision-making, and overall psychological suitability for law enforcement service.

3 | INDEPENDENT SECOND OPINION

When permitted by the hiring agency, candidates may obtain an independent second-opinion psychological evaluation as part of the agency’s appeal process. These evaluations are conducted using the same professional standards and POST criteria as the initial evaluation, providing an objective and independent assessment of psychological suitability.

4 | OVERVIEW OF THE PROCESS

• Completion of intake forms and informed consent

• Administration of standardized psychological testing

• Comprehensive clinical interview with a licensed psychologist

• Review of personal history and relevant background information

• Integration of assessment findings

• Preparation of a professional written report for the hiring agency
